Convince the prospective employer that you are the best candidate for this job. Here are some suggestions to help you:
  1. Do some independent research on the agency and, specifically, on the accounts on which you may be working. Be as knowledgeable as possible.


  2. On the basis of what you know, prepare a list of 20 questions to ask. General questions first, specific questions last (please run these questions by the recruiter first). Find out how the agency plans to grow in order to get insights as to how you can contribute to that growth.


  3. Be prepared to "sell" yourself by giving examples of how you will help the agency meet its growth objectives.


  4. Be prepared to answer questions about your previous work experience- i.e. rationale for leaving company "A" to go to company "B", etc.


  5. Get to interview 5 minutes early - check appearance.


  6. Don't bring up money, benefits or vacation at the first meeting. The major purpose of the initial interview is to do a "chemistry check" and to be certain you live up to your resume.


  7. Never badmouth any place where you have worked.


  8. Do not smoke during the interview. Do not order an alcoholic beverage when eating out with the interviewer.


  9. Show enthusiasm for the position! At the end of the interview, express interest in pursuing and determining next steps. Act as though this is the dream job you have been searching for.


  10. Call the recruiter and report particulars of the interview.


  11. Send out thank you notes promptly and personalize each by referring to topics that came up in the interview. Close with a call to action.


  12. Expenses can be attached on a separate sheet and should be reviewed by the recruiter.


  13. Don't send a thank you note on current employer's stationery.
